One of Australia’s hottest emerging acts, Dope Lemon, has come through with the first single from their upcoming album ‘The Smooth Big Cat’, set for release on July 12 via BMG. Having burst onto the scene in the UK and beyond with his debut album two years ago Dope Lemon (aka Angus Stone) has seen this initial body of work go on to pull in over 100 million streams. A pretty impressive feat for something merely described as a side project. The lo fi indie sounds of Dope Lemon will be coming to the UK, first as a physical release of the new album in September followed by three live shows in London Manchester and Leeds. Today however we take a look at ‘Hey You’, our track of the day.
‘Hey You’ opens with a brooding bassline setting the scene for maybe something a little darker from the Aussie. To liken Dope Lemon’s latest track to the likes of Mac DeMarco would be quite a lazy comparison on our part but you can’t really look past this moody, relaxed sound being on a similar path as Mac’s new album. Dope Lemon does bring through his own soundscapes and tones that sets this new material apart from the others but allows it to work within this slightly out-there lane on its own terms.
