Forming in 2016, Black Cats & Magpies have fast established themselves as one of the most exciting bands emerging from the Midlands. ‘Better Days’ is their first single of 2019 and follows on from their last EP ‘The Quarry’. Whilst quickly making their explosive, energetic live show something to truly behold, the band have been slogging away on new material and are ready to set the UK alight this year.
‘Better Days’ is simply an upbeat, indie gem with a certain anthemic quality to it. Super melodic and with playful guitars the gorgeous verse soon build into something more substantial in the choruses, showing off the bands ability to dabble with dynamics in extraordinary fashion. As the song develops so do many of the fundamental elements, guitars slowly becoming more intricate and the overall soundscape finds itself in new terrain by the bridge. On the surface ‘Better Days’ is a straightforward indie-pop song, but when you listen a little closer its subtleties clearly set it apart.
