Birmingham’s award winning indie band Paper Buoys returned recently with their new single ‘Chasing Ghosts’ having won Best Album at 2018’s BMA awards. The latest track is Produced by Gavin Monaghan, who has worked with the likes Editors, The Sherlocks, The Blinders and many more and signals a slight change in direction for the band. Speaking on the track the band state; ““It’s about the freedom and innocence of childhood that we lose in adult life.”
Keeping with their trademark gritty edge, ‘Chasing Ghosts’ enters a more melodic realm with jangly guitars giving out sounds akin to the likes of The Smiths or maybe The Stone Roses. The vocals are raw and give a real sense of the passion that goes into making big tunes with bigger lyrical themes and delivers them with an acute crispness. The chorus gives this track that late summer anthem feeling, a deep sunset vibe washes across ‘Chasing Ghosts’ with a subtle energy.
