We featured Sweden’s pop punk quartet Dorm Patrol just last month with their single ‘Make EA Skate Again’ – The band now give us the second piece to their upcoming EP in the form of ‘Back To Basics’ and like the title suggests it is the track’s simplicity that lets it stand out. The band were brought up on a diet of skateboarding and the culture and music that came along with it, an age that is evident throughout their work.
From the great soundtracks of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater to the wealth of skate demo tapes that dropped in the early 00s, Dorm Patrol find themselves pouring all of this into their music. ‘Back To Basics’ is a high tempo, infectiously energetic number that speaks to a generation of pop punk fans. It holds all the nuances that you’d expect from the likes of Blink 182 and New Found Glory with dynamic arrangements, full power guitars and that classic east coast vocal. It’s more vibrant, playful rock from a band that have set themselves on a path to glory.
