Newcastle-based four-piece SLEEPTAPE are carving out a name for themselves as one of the most exciting new exports from the city’s thriving music scene. New single ‘Midnight’ comes through as the bands third release this year, another statement of intent from the young quartet. With a string of live shows behind them and seemingly endless amounts of material, there must be a full body of work in pipeline somewhere.
The new single ‘Midnight’ is another dark gem from the alt rock band, massive riffs lead the way from dynamic verses and an almost Iggy Pop vocal to emerge. The choruses are a totally different matter, with soaring guitar lines, huge atmospheres and group vocals creating a sound of anthemic proportions.
The band describe ‘Midnight’ as “A dark, dangerous & driving onslaught of Indie Alt-Rock, The song talks about looking for self-validation or self-gratification through going out drinking and enabling the darker sides of a persona, projecting a false over-confident version of yourself”.
