Just two releases under the belt of Leeds based singer songwriter Ruthie and yet she has already picked up air time on Radio 1 , Beats 1, 6 Music… the list goes on and on. This early attention clearly points towards the wealth of talent that the young artist possesses. Speaking on the project Ruthie (real name Naomi Baguley) states; “So far Ruthie has been a project based in my flat and studios, writing and recording, so it’s been quite an insular process,” says Naomi. “The ‘Spirit Now Moves’ video is an opportunity for me to explore what Ruthie can be visually and aesthetically, in the real world…and to have a one-woman party wearing suits.”
The latest single is an absolute charmer, Ruthie’s dreamy vocals set the tone for the rest of the track which blends pop tones and catchy indie hooks together to create something quite special. There are hints of nostalgia to be found within ‘Spirit Now Moves’, but these subtly bubble away beneath a gorgeous woozy production that takes you away on a gently, mellow journey. It is early days for Ruthie but all the signs are pointing in one direction and with tracks like this to keep pushing things forward means there are surely big things on the horizon.
