2017 has delivered great things for Perth singer-songwriter Riley Pearce. Not only did he play his first international shows in London, but also picked up a ‘WAM Song of the Year’ Award and had one of his songs feature in the US hit show ‘Shadowhunters.’ Quite the introduction for the quietly masterful young Australian artist already making notable waves in his homeland.
His ‘Outside The Lines’ EP, released early 2016, has amassed over 6 million streams on Spotify, building a substantial amount of hype for his new material. That wait ends with his first release of the year, ‘Misplaced’.
A gorgeous, pared-back track that continues to express Pearce’s sublime melodic ear and lyrical ability. Revolving around an inner monologue, the track describes the uncertainties and overthinking that comes along with entering into a new relationship.
Both haunting and uplifting, Pearce blends a mixture of bare bones space and grander orchestral elements to reflect the dynamic highs and lows of what a relationship can be like. With an EP planned for release in 2018, this new single is a first taste of things to come in 2017 – and it feels like it could be another milestone year with tracks like these.
