Walthamstow’s Shanghai Blues have already caught the attention of the biggest tastemakers in the UK with praise coming from the likes of NME, Clash Magazine and the all important Spotify. The new single ‘On My Mind’ comes through AWAL and sets the band out as serious contenders for end of year lists already with a polished brand of indie rock. The band itself is just two years old, so all this early praise really indicates what the band are made of, and alongside tours with bands including Yack! favourites JUDAS, Shanghai Blues are building a strong reputation for a frenetic, energetic live show.
‘On My Mind’ has all the tropes of an accomplished rock track that borders on that commercial sound that bands such as The Hunna have made so successful. At its core the song is deeply rooted in alt rock with huge guitar lines bringing atmosphere in bundles and a clear vocal bringing it into a more accessible realm. As the guitars noodle around the drums become a driving force for the track bringing a undeniable energy and power that allows the choruses to explode into a massive crescendo of sing a long goodness.
