Mozes and the Firstborn just released the new video for ‘Sad Supermarket Song’, already picking up praise from the likes of Noisey, Clash and Pitchfork, the dutch four-piece are looking set to seriously impress in 2019. Californian label Burger Records signed the band for the release of their self-titled debut full-length in 2014, and followed up with ‘Great Pile Of Nothing’ in 2016, and last month they dropped their third album, ‘Dadcore’, with the label.
‘Sad Supermarket Song’ is a jangly lo-fi gem, although on the surface the lyrics may make the song feel like a parody track there is actually a much greater depth when you listen closer. The choruses feel grungy with a touch of teenage angst but tastefully put together in a much more mature manner, whilst the verses add a beautiful melodic edge to the track. There is an inherent, yet subtle energy on the track, the type that has you moving along without even noticing.
