Cousin Kula come through with another gem in the form of ‘Stacked’, setting themselves up for a hat trick of Track Of The Day‘s with us. The track comes from the band’s second EP due for release later this year and picks up where they left off in glittering fashion. ‘Stacked’ was lyrically inspired by singer Elliot’s Mum going through a divorce. His band mate, Douglas said: “Although it’s a song to his mum post divorce, I hear its message as being quite positive and hopeful, like: ‘you’ve got it all stacked up against you, but I back you to come through it all on top.'”
Muscially ‘Stacked’ is a gorgeous offering from the Bristol based band, and despite its heavy lyrical theme there are positives to take away. The guitar work is stunning, with a beautiful depth to it and its back up with some gorgeous little licks. There are a multitude of layers to this one, each as subtle as the next but if you peel this all back at it’s core ‘Stacked’ is an upbeat ballad that stands up strong and sets the band out as one to watch. Keep with these guys and you’ll never be disappointed.
