VC Pines is the moniker of former The Carnabys frontman Jack Mercer. Moving away from the indie-rock world, VC Pines has fully immersed himself in the alternative soul, poetry and punk sphere and now is sharing a new track called ‘Garden Of The Year’ complete with a suitably moving coming-of-age style video.
As the evenings draw in ‘Garden Of The Year’ beautifully represents the loving comfort one might find in wrapping themselves in a blanket. A soft, soul-filled performance shines through melded with wonderfully clean guitars and tight, snappy drums. All of this lies underneath a punky, yet delicate vocal that is complimented with some stunning instrumentation.
“It’s a coming of age song,” says the man himself, “tackling themes of jealousy and understanding relationships – how you deal with them at a younger age, what they mean to you and how you are perceived”
