One of Newcastle’s brightest talents Dead.Sleep come through with their new single ‘Drive’. Off the back of a slew of releases last year the quartet are starting to build a little bit of traction moving into 2019 and the new single goes a long way to solidifying their position in the North East. Building their sound around many modern indie-pop bands, ‘Drive’ is a striking take on mental health.

Although the track comes through as a mellow and dreamy bop, the content is a lot darker, the band explain “”It’s a real social commentary on how we see the world at the moment and how everything we consume, in order to create as artists ourselves, is ultimately at risk of going under due to social pressure and the expectations that society can have on an individual”. Channeling pop sounds from the likes of The 1975, there is also a distinctly raw, British sound reminiscent of Brit-pop era groups and even The Streets in places. Don’t just listen once because with each spin there is a deeper meaning to be found.
