Influenced by canonical rock giants, Toronto based The High Loves are on a mission to bring well informed and sensible pop rock to the world again. The band’s new single ‘Tried To Hard’ goes a long way to achieving their goal and comes through with splashes of the sounds of recent decades, blended together to create something quite fun and playful.
The first impression you get from this new release is a harking back to the mid noughties, quickly brought around to more modern, jangling indie sounds that then get shot back in time with guitars solos straight from the 80s. The song is a brilliant retrospective of some classic sounds and if the band are able to continue fusing these styles together without becoming cheesy then they’ll be on to a winner.
