Track Of The Day – Cousin Kula ‘Jelly Love’

Stepping out of our usual lane with Friday’s Track Of The Day. Cousin Kula, a six-piece psych-pop band from Bristol, have released a new single entitled ‘Jelly Love’ which comes through with enough indie-pop sensibilities to turn our heads.

The track is the band’s first new material since the release their debut EP, ‘OODLES’ and finds the band building on their reputation for producing the kind of grooved-out and slick basslines that underline warm, shimmering synths with a sense of melodic ease. With these elements cementing their signature sound with each release, ‘Jelly Love’ introduces a sing along chorus that elevates that brings fresh dynamism to a band that are going places.

Speaking about the writing of this new track, the band share: “It developed very quickly, largely out of a single jam which is quite rare for us. ‘Jelly Love’ captures the energy of that particular moment in time, more so than some of our other tunes that have gradually evolved, and can often take several months to fully emerge. The groove and the lyrics came out together – Doug played some silky chords and Elliot just sang what felt right. Overall, the whole way this tune was written and the feel it captures symbolises a really positive moment in time for us.”
